Slack, Slack, Slacking
But only in the typing aspect, never in the running. Okay, that is not true either, but I have been pretty good about my training. As of today, my longest run is ten miles, something that I never thought myself capable of. There have been a few missteps along the way, but I keep on trucking.
For example, remember that early morning Thursday training run that I kept talking about going to, but never tried? Well, one Wednesday night I starting talking to a guy that I run with regularly (correction, that I run behind regularly- he is much too fast for me), and he said that he was interested in going, too. So we made a pact. I would wake up and call him, he would call me when he was on his way, and we would meet to do this track training workout that is supposed to be so fantastic for you. Let me set the scene: It is COLD, it is probably below twenty degrees, which, for a southern Californian, is cause to shut down completely and hybernate until warming commences. This temperature might have something to dow ith the fact that THE SUN IS STILL SHINING ON OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD!!! It is pitch black when I get to University City High School and begin looking for the cars of all of the other didicated runners who are here to train. I looked high. I looked low. There was not another car to be found that morning, boys and girls, and would you like to know why? There are no lights around the University City High School Track. There is no track training during December or January because not even the sun will get up and shine at 6 a.m. in the STINKING MORNING!!! Needless to say, when Heath showed up, I caught a little fluff for my having dragged him out of bed and talked him into driving out to see how pretty the track looks in the dark. Oh well, it was justification for not running Thursday night.
In other news: I am kicking my fundraising into full gear. I am about 10% of the way toward my goal, 20% of the way toward my required minimum, and I have a couple of events set up in the near future that should help send me rocketing towards those goals.
Sunday, January 29, 2006: The First Annual Hooters Charity Poker Tournament benefitting The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
This is where most of my energy is focused right now. I have been talking with radio stations, Hooters, businesses, pretty much anyone who will listen, and have been working on making this a big event. It is a No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em game with a $25 buy-in which gets you poker chips, some Hooters wings and a raffle ticket. The San Diego Gulls have been kind enough to offer us some goodies to hand out for prizes, and I am in the works trying to get some other big things. We will have to see how it goes. I will let you know.
This tournament is my litmus test for how much work I need to put in on my next big fundraiser, which will be a Mardi Gras Volleyball Tournament. I will let you know more about that... well... when I figure it out. Until then, I must go work (I have slacked long enough while updating this blog). Pictures to come shortly after the Poker Tournament! Cheers!
Jen
